Submitted by mypsoria on Fri, 09/14/2007 - 04:54.
As and when you are affected by a skin disorder the first and the foremost is to identify the disorder. Many tend to mix up between Eczema and Psoriasis. The disorder can cause serious embarrassment and a lot of discomfiture. Thus one has to have a fair idea about differences between the two diseases.
Exact differences between Eczema and Psoriasis are given as under
1. Age: Adults are prone to Psoriasis where as Eczema may occur in children also
2. Cause: Skin irritants such as strong perfumes and cosmetics cause Eczema. Genetic reasons and irritants in environment cause Psoriasis.
3. Symptoms: Psoriasis may affect joints as in arthritis. Eczema has no such symptoms.
4. Appearance of Skin: Psoriasis will give you rough red skin. The skin could be raised and cause itching as well as bleeding. Skin may have scaly flakes. Eczema can be distinguished by dry skin with severe itching. Scales are not present in Eczema.
5. Diets: Psoriasis could occur due to excessive fats and sweets in your diet. Eczema could be caused by certain specific foods which can be avoided.
Above are the differences between Eczema and Psoriasis. Similarity is that both can cause irritation and embarrassment. Both adults and children find it difficult to cope with the disease. It is always better to consult a doctor or a dermatologist is even better. After proper diagnosis treatment can commence.
